For valentines day my wonderful mother purchased this mirror I had my eye on for our guest room.
With a bit of spray paint it added a much needed finishing touch to the room.
We only have a few more accessories to add and we will officially have one room complete!
Christmas day for me is still filled with the fantasy and excitement I experienced as a child. This years featured gift was a deer head I have been dreaming about like a 13-year-old boy dreams of a getting a Red Rider BB Gun. I was so excited and I can not wait to put it up in my living room so all the neighbors who drive by the house can enjoy it 
I now find myself seeking out items for my (our) house that will guarantee an eyebrow raise from a guest. Life is too short to live without sequins, fur and an animal head on your wall….

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of spending the day with my sister and mom. Since I had my sister hostage I decided to take her to ZGallarie to find some cheap and chic accessories for my living room. One might think, “Oh, Alicia is so lucky to have a creative sister who can help her decorate her house”. And for the most part that is true, but asking for my sisters advise is not for the faint of heart. Much like a drill sergeant having a bad day she shout out orders and demands that you “fall in line”. Once I emerge from my fetal position I find that she has picked out accessories for our fireplace mantel.

Style for the masses under $140 dollars…
I don’t like people to label me. I feel like I am a women of many talents and tastes and I have an appreciation for the many things life has to offer. But this weekend someone placed a label on me and instead of being upset by it I found myself freed.
I felt like one of those people who appear on the T.V. show Mystery Diagnostics or The Finder when in just a short 30 minute episode all of life’s questions that have been nagging at them for years were finally explained.
My diagnosis…..my birth mother…..Hollywood Regency. I had no idea there was a name for my affliction, my attraction to all things mirrored yet modern, quirky but clean. But this weekend when someone said to me, “you’re going for that Hollywood Regency look right?” I was floored, all this time I was just picking out items for our house that was drawn to. I never really thought that I was following an actual design style or that Kelly Wearstler and Jonathan Adler were supposed to be my design heroes, I didn’t even know what I was doing had a name.
In that very moment I was freed from the design shackles that have been holding me back. Hallelujah!

Oh the wallpaper dilemma. First of all I never thought in a million years that wallpaper would comeback in style. I don’t know why I thought that because everything eventually comes around again.
However, I am very frustrated because I can’t seem to find the perfect combination of stylish and cheap. The wallpaper that we plan on hanging in the dinning room will be a statement piece for the entire space and it will be one of the first things you see when you walk into our home. Needless to say I am having a major issue with making a decision.
So just for fun and because its Friday I decided to do a poll to see which is your favorite.

After almost a year in a box I am going to bust out the new chandiler tonight and hang it in the dinning room. Last weekend we installed (glued) the mirror to the ceiling where the chandiler will go. I guess we will find out tonight if it will hold.

Ok, so a few updates. Our floors are done and they are beautiful. I love them more and more everyday I see them. (I will post pics soon but the last week i have been sick and have not done one thing besides sleep). After a week of living with my mom we moved back into the house last Sunday. I am not sure how healthy it was moving back in with all the fumes but I am still here so I guess it was ok.
We really didn’t move back in any of the furniture for a few reasons. One i came down with a cold on the Sunday we moved in and two we have a lot of painting and work to do before we start putting stuff back into the house. So this week nothing got done as I was sick at home in bed for two days and now finally feel better and can function.
I am ready to start getting some stuff done now and priority one is getting our drapes back up in our bedroom. I know the neighbors will be disappointed to have their nightly peep show taken away but its time! We have a huge list and only two weeks to get it done as I have a houseguest coming in town for the weekend and as of right now the guest room is bare.
The house seems like a weekly battle lately and I know things could aways be worse. The drama this week….the stove finally went out on us yesterday. Dead as a doornail. I know Cary will start going through chili withdrawal soon if it doesn’t get fixed so I had to place a call into our home owners insurance policy. We will see what actually gets covered. Second drama is we had an injury. No not me, Cary. He fell into the air vent hole in the master bedroom and decided he first broke his wrist and then it was his elbow. I told him he was lucky as it was his left arm and he is right-handed so he can still paint. BTW, nothing is broken. Also, yesterday Cary tried to set our house on fire by microwaving a wedge of laughing cow cheese with the foil wrapper still on. I came into the kitchen for a glass of water to find paper towels in the microwave ablaze.
So all of this and at the end of the day my husband says to me….”after we get done painting these rooms I am done working on the house for a while”. Heartbreaking.
